GRADY MATHEWS
It is always my intention to be a steward of the materials
I use in my work. My hope is that my designs enhance the beauty of the materials
used, not compete for attention. I design pieces that create and hold interest
by allowing the pattern, color and texture of the wood to be the stars of
the show, while the design elements are the supporting cast.
~Grady Mathews~
I have been designing and building fine furniture in the Seattle area since
1976 and co-founded a nationally recognized furniture cooperative and gallery,
making handcrafted, one-of-a-kind furniture accessible to a wide and diverse
audience.
My portfolio includes the Gazelle Table, for which I received an American
Crafts Award; and the Lattice Table, which was chosen for inclusion in Fine
Woodworking Magazines Design Book Seven. My work can also be seen
in Creative Designs in Furniture, published by Kraus-Sikes, Inc. and in
Built-in Furniture published by Taunton Press. During my 40+ years as a
designer/craftsman of fine furniture, I have designed and built literally
thousands of pieces, each with its own specific expression suited to the
person for whom it was built.
I show primarily in the Northwest, but my pieces reside in homes and businesses
throughout the United States and abroad.
